Perhaps you have heard the quote attributed to John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist movement, that says, “If your heart is as my heart, give me your hand.”  That spirit of connectedness is a hallmark of the United Methodist Church.  Because of this connectional system, did you know that a portion of every dollar you give to our local church fulfills Centennial’s mission to be “followers of Jesus who go out and build loving and just communities?”  It is true!  Your generous giving helps to respond to emergencies in the United States and internationally, to support higher education, and to provide services locally and throughout Minnesota.

This is made possible by the apportionments our congregation contributes each year to the Minnesota Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.  The amount Centennial contributes is determined by a formula that takes into account the number of members of Centennial as well as our annual operating budget.  Members are those who have joined Centennial as adults or who have been confirmed as youth.  For 2022, our apportionments are $115 per member for our 962 members across both campuses.  As a whole, Centennial’s apportionment responsibility is approximately $110,600.

Centennial has proudly paid its apportionments every year since the founding of the church in 1953, but that streak may be in jeopardy this year.  Based on pledges from the fall 2021 stewardship drive, as well as our projection of other income, we anticipate having a shortfall in our 2022 operating budget that is close to the amount of our apportionment responsibility.

The easiest way for us to fill this hole in our budget is for each and every Centennial member to contribute $115 to cover their share of apportionments.  Therefore, we are asking that all families consider a special contribution of at least $115 for each member in their household to help Centennial ensure it can continue its faithful streak of paying all of its apportionments.  Unfortunately, not everyone is in a position to do so.  If you are able to contribute more, please consider doing so.  And if you cannot contribute the full $115, any amount helps.

During the Lenten season, we will be taking a few minutes during each worship service to learn more about our connectional system and the amazing work that our apportionments support.  Each week, we will provide updates on how close we are to achieving our goal.  We plan to celebrate on Palm Sunday, when we can all shout “Hosanna,” because we will have reached our goal and can carry out our commitment to building loving and just communities through faithful payment of our annual apportionments.

Please join us now either through the QR code at the top of this page, by visiting the church website to make an online gift, by mail, or by bringing your apportionment to the weekly service.  Please mark checks with the word “apportionments” so that we can properly account for your gift.

Thank you for all you are able to give toward Centennial’s apportionment obligations.  As we will learn together in the coming weeks, your contributions make a big difference locally, nationally, and throughout the world!
