Every gift has a multi-generational impact

May 10, 2017 | for Habitat for Humanity volunteers

About Ali, Masna, and their three children who are buying a home being built by Habitat for Humanity.

Ali and Masna are no strangers when it comes to jumping from place to place to build a better life for their family. They are excited for this transition to the home in Blaine and are looking forward to staying put!

The couple is originally from Ethiopia and came to the United States in the early 2000’s. Ali moved to California in ’05, but found that it was too expensive for his family. By 2008, Ali and Masna found their way to Minnesota.

The family is kept very busy with work and kids. Ali is working two jobs, the Airport and MedTox. Masna is a full-time mom for their three beautiful kids, two boys and one girl. 9-year-old Milkeysa, 7-year-old Fenet and 3-year-old Omar. Their son and daughter are in elementary school together, while little Omar attends daycare. Fenet is very excited for their new home because she does not want to share a bedroom with her brothers, and have insists on having pink all over the place!

The family currently lives in a small two-bedroom apartment. Ali and Masna are frustrated with the space for multiple reasons, it’s too cold, the kids don’t have room to play, and they can’t invite guests over. They are looking forward to having the park nearby in Blaine, and they believe the kids will be out there all the time.

Ali and Masna are excited to move to an area where they will feel safe. The past couple living experiences have left them feeling worried for their kids’ safety. Moving to Blaine will impact their lives in a wonderful way. The home is near a community that they have roots in and is extremely close to Ali’s work.

Ali and Masna are incredibly happy and appreciate all the volunteers that help with building the home! Ali offered to buy food for all the volunteers.
