Connect with our Church Community

Drive in worship: Next Sunday, August 16 | 10:00-10:35am | The St. Anthony Park Campus worship team is hosting a drive in worship service at the Roseville campus parking lot. Tune in to the music and sermon through the car radio! We are also collecting food donations for Keystone Food Shelf, so please bring something to share with the community! Safety restrictions include requesting that all attendants remain in their cars with the windows closed. Church bathrooms will be closed to the public (hence the shortened service time). Can’t wait to worship with you all. Roseville worship will still be available online through YouTube.

Book Discussion with Pastors & Responding for Racial Justice in the Twin Cities—Sign up with Pastor Brian for Fridays at 2:00 (bhacklander [AT] centennialumc [DOT] org) or Pastor Whitney for Thursdays at 7:00 (wsheridan [AT] centennialumc [DOT] org) as they each offer a book discussion of Robin Diangelo’s White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk about Racism. As people of faith, we believe that we are called to heal a broken world, and this includes racial justice and donating to help relief efforts. Go to [CLICK HERE]. Also see the denomination wide response at Thank you!

Online Course on Race and Racism: The United Methodist Church is offering an online course on race and racism for those who wish have a fundamental understanding of race and racism from a biblical perspective. It is a self-guided 4 part online class with videos, reflections and activities. The cost for this class is $39.99 and you can sign up [HERE]

New Small Groups Starting this Fall – SAP and Roseville campuses will have new small groups starting this fall with a focus on social justice. Stay tuned for more details.

New Guidelines for Outside Use of Church Grounds for Small Group Gatherings from the Board of Trustees:

  • Groups must reserve use of the church grounds in advance. Contact Julie Elholm at the church office to make reservations.

  • Group size will not exceed 10 people.

  • Each person attending the gathering must complete a “Visitors and Employee Screening Checklist” and turn it in to the church office or email it to Julie Elholm on the day of the event at jelholm [AT] centennialumc [DOT] org.

  • Group will provide their own chairs, always placed a minimum of 6 feet apart. (Note: for further safety, try to arrange the chairs so that no one is consistently downwind of anyone else)

  • Participants must wear protective face masks that cover the mouth and nose at all times.

  • Neither food nor drink will be shared among the participants

  • The church building will not be open to the group, including restrooms. In the event of a weather emergency and staff is on hand, the church will be opened for the purpose of providing shelter.

If you have further questions, please contact: Julie Elholm, Membership Secretary (651) 633-7644 or Dennis Webster, Director of Operations (763) 443-7855

The Church Re-Opening Task Force is at work!  We are developing protocol to provide a safe and clean environment for all to return to our Roseville and St. Anthony Park campsuses. Before we can open our doors for small groups or eventually for worship, we need to meet the many requirements from the state of Minnesota, the Minnesota United Methodist Conference, and our insurance company Church Mutual. Just a friendly but important reminder that our church buildings are closed except for deliveries, repairs, recording of online worship, and essential functions. We need to develop a COVID-19 Preparedness Plan and file it with the UMC leadership in the area. The plan must include many items, for example:

• cleaning and disinfecting the entire building (when supplies are available)

• posting appropriate signage throughout the building with information on social distancing, handwashing and mask use

• determining appropriate

protocols for worship in the sanctuary and for activities in other gathering spaces in the church buildings

School Supplies: Church and Society is teaming up with Kids in Need Foundation again this year to provide school supplies for those in need. This Foundation serves students and teacher in schools with a population of 70% or more enrolled in the government’s free and reduced lunch program. In a recent survey to their network of educators, 95% of respondents indicated that access to basic school supplies resulted in an equitable learning environment for students. No matter where students are learning from, a traditional classroom or the kitchen table, basic school supplies are necessary for education to continue. Due to COVID19, in lieu of actual school items, the Church and Society Committee is collecting donations only this year for the Kids In Need Foundation. Please send your donation to Centennial United Methodist Church with School Tools on the memo line. Thank you for any help you can give to this program.

The UMW Simpson Shower, originally scheduled for August 13th, will not be held at that time due to the Covid restrictions. The UMW board will soon be meeting virtually, and will be making some decisions regarding upcoming event dates depending on church decisions.  UMW asks that you stay posted for further announcements.

We are still doing Church!  Here’s just a glimpse of what is happening in these stay-at-home times at Centennial:

  • Children’s activities & devotions from Pastor Jen and Amanda shared online with children & parents.

  • Middle school & senior high online activities and gatherings from Amanda and Derek.

  • Sunday online worship from both campuses—huge thanks to our invaluable tech coordinators, John Misa at Roseville and Hal King & Eric Bjorklund at SAP.

  • Sunday morning Zoom adult classes continue from Roseville campus—Connectivity through the Houses & DeLongs, and the Twenty-Something group with Pastor Brian.

  • Sunday morning Zoom Bible study continues from SAP campus with Pastor Whitney.

  • Video devotionals continue from Pastor Brian.

  • Our various ministry teams are still meeting via Zoom (or Google Docs)—Missions, Church & Society, Children’s & Family Ministry, Church Council, Finance, Trustees, Staff—just to name a few!  (By the way, all of these include members from both campuses.)

  • Be watching for NEW initiatives…and keep checking in with each other one-on-one and in your circles, small groups, and classes!

  • We may not be able to worship in-person yet, but as the song goes, Yes, we’re the Church together!

Prayer Chain available for your requests: Do you have a prayer concern for yourself or a loved one? The Centennial prayer chain exists to share your concerns with God and others.  Contact Julie Elholm in the church office at jelholm [AT] centennialumc [DOT] org. with your prayer request and indicate if it is to be shared with the congregation or just the pastoral staff.
